The foundation of New Zealand education system lies in the New Zealand Qualifications Framework (NZQF). Secondary and tertiary qualifications that come under the NZQF come with quality assurance and global recognition.

The Study Levels are – Pre-primary Education, Primary School, Intermediate School, Secondary School, Tertiary Education (undergraduate and post-graduate courses)

Type of Institutes and Qualifications offered are –

  • Universities – Undergraduate degree, postgraduate diploma/degree, PhD
  • Institutes of Technology and Polytechnics (ITPs) – Graduate diploma, postgraduate diploma, certificates
  • Private Training Establishments (PTEs) – Certificates, diploma

English Language Requirements:

  • Diploma Courses: 6.0 Bands with no band less than 5.5
  • Bachelors degree: 6.0 Bands with no band less than 5.5
  • Masters degree: 6.5 Bands with no band less than 6.0

Post Study Work Rights

If you have acceptable qualifications(s) that you completed in New Zealand, you can apply for a visa to work there. Depending on your qualification and where you studied, you can work for any employer for between 1 and 3 years, and do almost any work.

By studying a master’s degree you will be eligible for the maximum 3-year post-study work visa to stay in New Zealand and work after you graduate.
