UK Education System

UK has two types of universities i.e. Traditional universities (since the 12th century) and Modern/Post 1992 universities. The responsibility of education in the UK is delegated to four jurisdictions – England, Northern Ireland, Wales and Scotland. All of these regions have different forms of education systems.

The education system in the UK consists of four stages:

  • Primary education
  • Secondary education
  • Further education
  • Higher education (bachelors, masters, doctoral degrees)

  • The Framework for Qualifications of Higher Education Institutions in Scotland (FQHEIS)

English Language Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree: 6.0-7.0 (depending on the university)
  • Master’s degree: 6.5-7.5 (depending on the university)

  • Average tuition fees – £10,000 to £20,000 a year
  • Average fee of Undergraduate courses – £6000 to £9000 annually
  • Average fee of Postgraduate courses – £10,000 to £16,000 annually

Student Visa Requirements For UK

Post Study Work Rights

UK has a 2-year post-study work visa for genuine international students who have a valid immigration status. The visa will allow eligible undergraduate & post-graduate students to work, or look for work, in any career or position of their choice, for two years after completing their studies. PhD students will be granted a 3-year-post-study visa.

This visa came into effect since the 2020/21 intake of students to university. After the two years, they will be able to switch onto the skilled work visa if they find a job which meets the skill requirement of the route.
